Several years ago a couple from our church provided a Plexiglas pulpit for the stage. When it arrived, a small bronze plaque was attached on the speaker’s side with a Bible verse from John 12:21. It said, “Sir, we would see Jesus.” This plaque was not a memorial for a deceased loved one or for the benefit of the congregation. This plaque was positioned so that every time someone approached the podium, he or she would be reminded to exalt Jesus. I am convicted frequently as I stand to preach that my purpose is to point people to Jesus.
Every believer should aspire each day to exalt Jesus in his or her life. People who encounter us each day should catch a glimpse of Christ living in us. Paul declared, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20, NKJ). He said again, “….it pleased God…to reveal His Son in me…” (Galatians 1:15,16, NKJ). The Christian life is a supernatural life empowered by the resurrected Lord who has made His home in us! We are not living for ourselves, but for Him who died for us and rose again.
How different would your family be if Christ Jesus lived in your home? Well, He does. Oftentimes as Christians we show more of Christ to the world than we do our own family. Are you more patient with a co-worker than with your own husband or wife? Are you more encouraging to a neighbor than you are to your children? Do you try harder at kindness toward people you don’t know than to those you do? The presence of Jesus in our lives needs to be shown first to our own family and in our homes. The Bible declares, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore, be imitators of God,….” (Ephesians 4:32-5:1, NKJ). Put Christ Jesus on display through your life to those closest to you.
Show Christ Jesus to the world through your marriage. Marriage itself is a picture of the relationship between Jesus and His Church. Scripture teaches, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,…” (Ephesians 5:25, NKJ). Many in the world are looking for hope for their marriage. How wonderful to see it on display in Christian marriages where Jesus Christ is honored.
Please join us this weekend at San Saba’s First Baptist Church, February 9-10, for the Love & Respect Conference. Bless your home by hearing and applying the Word of God in your marriage. Contact the church office for information.
