Samuel Crosby has served as pastor at First Baptist since September of 1998. He and his wife, Jan, have four daughters. He comes from a family of thirteen children from Coryell County of whom many are in ministry roles. In 1989, Sam graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1993, he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree. His previous pastorates include Osage Baptist Church near Crawford, Texas, First Baptist Church, Lometa, Texas, and First Baptist Church, Paducah, Texas. He celebrated 30 years of ministry in August of 2015. Alvino Valdez is serving as our Church Life Minister and Facilities Manager. He and his wife Lisa have three children, and five grandchildren. Alvino worked with at risk youth for 16 years for the Texas Youth Commission prior to answering the call to ministry. Alvino also served as pastor of High Valley Baptist Church at Bend, Texas for approximately 2 years prior to coming on staff here at SSFBC. Alvino has degree in theological studies from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Kelli Barker has been a member of the staff at San Saba’s First Baptist Church since 2003, having been named Minister of Children in September of 2013. She also serves as the church’s Office Manager. She and her husband, Darrin, have two grown sons and three grandsons. Kelli is a native of San Saba, and has an Associates Degree in Religion from Liberty University.Click here to contact Kelli.
J.D. Barker has served has youth minister since August 2016. He and his wife Michelle have one son, Walt. J.D. is a native of San Saba, graduating from San Saba High School in 2005. J.D. earned his Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of North Texas in 2009. During his time in college, J.D. served in the college ministry of Denton Bible Church in Denton, TX. He also completed the Young Guns discipleship program, taught by Denton Bible’s senior pastor, Tommy Nelson. J.D. serves as a bi-vocational minister; teaching special education at San Saba Elementary school in addition to his role as youth minister. Linda Culpepper and her husband Gary moved to San Saba from Pflugerville in 2005. They have a daughter, Tammy. She and her husband, Kile, and their four children – Zach, Luke, Caleb, and Hannah – live in San Antonio. Linda retired from teaching in 2011 and began working as part-time financial secretary at First Baptist. She has a bachelor’s degree from Dallas Baptist College and a master’s degree from Sul Ross State University.
Karen Whiting serves as part-time Church Secretary. She has been a member of First Baptist Church since September, 2002. Karen graduated from from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and later added Early Childhood Certification. Craig and Karen have been married since August, 1980. They have three adult children and six grandchildren.
Michelle Barker has been the part-time media director for San Saba’s First Baptist Church since 2014. She and her husband, J.D. Barker, have one son, Walt, and are in the process of adopting another child from Ethiopia. Michelle grew up in the Sanger, Texas area and attended the University of North Texas, receiving an engineering degree in 2009. She met her husband at Denton Bible Church where they were both involved in the College Life Ministry.
